The 16th FAMI Road Safety Seminar organised by MASAAM was held at the G Hotel Gurney, Penang on 10th October, 2016. Acknowledging the fact that more has to done to reduce the fatality rate of motorcyclist in Malaysia which averages 11 deaths per day, Dato’ Syed Mohammad Aidid , Advisor MASAAM , in his opening address said all stakeholders have an important role to play. This paved the way for Datuk Roslan bin Eusoff , Deputy Director General, Malaysia Road Safety Department(JKJR) to present the “Road Safety Plan and Initiative” for the future. Next , Professor Wong Shaw Voon, Director General of Malaysia Institute of Road Safety Research(MIROS) elaborated on “Road Safety & International Road Assessment Programme(IRAP)” and also spoke on post accident crash findings. “Enforcement and Its Challenges “was the next topic presented by DSP Dr.Bakri bin Zainal Abidin from the department of Investigation and Traffic Enforcement division of the Royal Malaysia Police(PDRM). After the afternoon tea break, Professor Dr.Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director of Engineering of University Sains Malaysia enlightened the audience on the “Behaviour of Motorcyclist”. In sharing his thoughts on best practices on road safety awareness in Japan, the last speaker, Mr. Masayuki Nomura, Chairman, Road Safety Experts Group(JAMA) demonstrated what it takes to inculcate the knowledge at an early age , in his delivery of the topic ” Kids Road Safety in Japan”. The audience later posted numerous questions to the panel of speakers, ranging from enforcement to higher penalties, while the call for greater awareness was heighten.
