Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM)(Co. no:46829-P), a company incorporated in Malaysia in 1978, is a joint venture between Hong Leong Industries Bhd and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd , Japan.
Hong Leong Industries Bhd., holds majority equity interest in HLYM, is part of a well diversified conglomerate, Hong Leong Group of Companies, Malaysia.
HLYM was appointed official franchise holder for CKD and CBU Yamaha motorcycles and ATVs in Malaysia since 1978. It rolled out its first CKD Yamaha street model, RX100 at the Shah Alam plant in 1979.

HLYM today, after merging its marketing and distribution arm into a single entity, relocated its factory in 1997 and now occupies an area sprawling 35.6 acres in Sungai Buloh, Selangor.
The entire HLYM complex consists of a Main Office block, a R&D centre and 4 factories engaged in press and welding of metal parts, spray painting, assembly operations, plastic injection moulding and a designated warehouse for distribution of CBU motorcycles.
Currently, 3 (three) moped, 3 (three) automatic (scooter) and 2 (two) street models are being manufactured and assembled in HLYM. The Yamaha motorcycles are principally for sale in the domestic market.
Majority of the engines are locally assembled and supplied by Hicom Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Sdn.Bhd.
HLYM continues to invest in new technologies and equipment to improve productivity and upgrade the skill of workers on the transfer of technology with the guidance and coaching of YMC engineers and consultants.
Upon the completion of the factory expansion in 2011, HLYM’s annual design capacity was increased to 250,000 units compared to the previous 180,000 units a year.
HLYM constantly keeps vigilant on issues affecting the industry and participates actively through Motorcycle and Scooter Assemblers and Distributors Association of Malaysia (MASAAM), the manufacturers association, on matters relating to implementation and gazzetting of new standards, regulations and rules governing the motorcycle business.
HLYM’s marketing strategies includes the organisation of customer-based activities and image-building programmes, which stress on performance, reliability and styling to promote the Yamaha brand image. In carrying out its social responsibility, HYLM has consistently conducted road safety programmes through its Balik Kampung Road Safety Campaign annually for the last 13 years. Another program which is called Yamaha Safety Riding Science (YSRS) targets factory workers and students from colleges and universities. HLYM’s recent involvement as the title sponsor for the inaugural LIGA 1MCC Hong Leong Yamaha 2012 Football League is to participate in the development of grassroot football amongst young Malaysians and to help raise the standards of football in the country.
Today, HLYM is also proud to be in the unique position of being the motorcycle manufacturer in Malaysia with triple certification of ISO 9002 (Quality Management System) from SIRIM, TPM Excellence Award from JIPM and ISO 14001 (Environment Management System) from SGS Malaysia/ SGS UK.
